Almost 24/7!

Katy is Border Collie/Australian Shepherd. The plan was to watch Katy 24/7, until she could be bred to Rowdy, a Border Collie/Australian Shepherd. However, the heat this summer was too much for him and he passed away from heat exhaustion. So, if we didn't want puppies (again) from the stray dog that ran wild in the desert behind us, we had to continue keeping watch. We live in a "drop zone". Dogs and cats are dropped off on our side of the highway all the time. Katy is a rescue from the oil fields (a different drop zone). Most of the dogs and cats find homes with someone from the corrals. Not so for the stray in the desert. (He only comes out at night.) Well, Katy is expecting and is due around the 15th, as close as we can figure. She is as big as a barn, so we think that she is going to have a large litter. She is getting moody and possessive of everything around her and growls to let the other dogs know that they need to leave her stuff alone...especially her igloo dog house. I know...it should be a barn dog house, but the igloo was bought for our Golden Retreiver, Diesel Marie, when we lived in Wyoming.

I can tell that Katy misses going over to the stables with TnT. She usually gets to go on horseback rides out in the desert, to Jo's for coffee in the morning, to pick up hay for the horses, on the pack trip into the Sierra Nevada Mountians, up to the ranch, everywhere TnT go (except for work).

She is just too big to "load up" into the back of the truck!!!

Ooh, Ooh, she's preggers and due on the 15th? Meaning that when I come up for Thanksgiving, I may be able to snuggle tiny little pipsqueaks of puppies? That's GREAT!

I am sorry to hear about the stud dog passing away. I know that TnT were really hoping to get some of his pups. Are you certain it was the stray nearby that's the dad?

Ah, the sacrifices to be made for motherhood, even among dogs.

Katy is beautiful. I've always wanted to have a Border Collie, but it isn't fair to have one unless there is a lot of country activity for them. They are so smart and active. I see a lot of "Free to good home" ads in the paper for them. I think they get bored and put the ad in themselves.

I'm eager to see the pups.

Hi Becky, Yes, you may snuggle our little pipsqueaks! We are hoping that Katy throws some puppies that look like her this time. Even though her last litter had the white tip on their tails and freckles on their tummies, they all look more like the desert stray. And yes, we are sure that he is the poppa.

See ya in a couple of weeks.
