One Month Old...

Katy has successfully weaned her pups. Translation...NannyJ's responsibilities quintupled! NannyJ is the name I have been given by the animals in our family. When it is time to be babysat, "Let's go to NannyJ in the workshoppe!" When it is time for medicine, "NannyJ will make you feel better!" Since it is winter, these puppies didn't get to grow up under the rose bush outside. It is much too cold at night for them, so I have to work over time keeping their playpen clean.

When it is time to eat, I give them puppy chow that has been soaked in hot water with some milk stirred in. For some reason they don't want their milk and eggs mixture and just go crazy over their water! Odd! While the little monsters are eating, I pet them, change out bedding, clean the tarp, pet them some more, start a wash load, rub their heads, clean the floor, put puppies back in their playpen with a kiss on top of the head and with what is left of their food (if any), then try to remember if I was going in to the house or back out to the workshoppe. Just kidding! This is repeated several times during the day.

It looks like all the puppies are going to have blue eyes. They are not getting darker and I can see a dark blue edge on the iris that lightens toward the pupil. The dark brown and white female that looks the most like Katy has the lightest colored eyes (Oh, I want this pup!), while Little Coal's (to the right of Christmas Surprise, looking down) and Ruffles (to the left of Christmas Surprise) are the darkest.

Ruffles got her nickname because she is a little bit curly and has a mohawk ruffle from the top of her head to her shoulders. Anytime I find a puppy out of the playpen, it is usually Ruffles. The other four play contendedly in their playpen, not trying to get out unless Katy comes strolling into the room looking for puppy chow!

Christmas Surprise's owner and his wife have been looking for a rhinestone studded collar for her. They want the kind that is studded all the way around. He will come by Christmas morning after he gets off work and take her home to his kids.

Little Coal is the quiet one as he lets his dark brown sister bite on his ears, pull his tail, and bite his feet. I think he has realized that he is outnumbered by his sibling sisters! He initiates nap time...

At the time of this post the puppies are already 5 weeks old and will be 6 weeks old on Christmas Day! I hope my camera will work okay to get pictures of Coal and Christmas Surprise meeting their new families. I will post again on Christmas Day...until then don't get overwhelmed by the Christmas rush!

I never looked forward to giving up the pups my dogs had. I wanted to keep them all. Who knew their characteristics as well as I did?

But, somehow, they all managed to find their place in the new families they went to. Puppies have so much love to give!

I'd love to be a fly on the wall to see the delight the kids have on Christmas morning. These little butterballs are too cute. Thanks for posting the photos. Things are hectic but you took a few moments. Thanks.

Hi Janey

Those little puppies are so cute. I'm sure their new owners will give them all the love and care they deserve. Nice blog.

So you haven't found families for all of them yet? Maybe you'll get to keep one after all. They certainly are cute little butter balls. I'd gladly take you up on your offer to be showered with such wonderful puppy kisses, but I do have a cat that love to give kisses. I can just feel the tension release when I go home for awhile and get to pet her.

This took me back to the great times when Misty had puppies. Such a lot of work but so rewarding. I could have kept them all but the other dogs and my family members were more than ready to watch them go to their own homes.

And don't you love how all the puppies have their own little personalities right from the beginning? There was always the one that was first to climb out of whereever I was keeping them.

Hope you had a great Christmas and I'm looking forward to seeing pictures.

Hi Rosemary, Even though there have been dogs in my life from the time I can remember, I have as yet had one that was just mine. I was (am) a kitty girl. Especially white, alley cat and Persian or Siamese kitties!
