2007 Equine Experience...Part One...

Cool Slideshows

Friday started at 6 a.m. for me! Once I called TnT to see when they would be arriving, (by 8:30am!) I put some catalogs for our PJ's Corner Gift Shoppe booth together. I still had a few LAPD's (Little Animal Paper Dolls) to staple the label tops on, and then making sure I had the guys arm bands, parking pass and a card key to the motel room, I headed over to the fairgrounds. By this time it was almost 8 a.m. and I would be able to get into the exhibition hall to make sure the booth was ready for the shopping crowds. Since I was set up in the Equine Experience Information Booth, I was right inside the Main Exhibition Hall Front Entrance!
During the weekend, I met the vendors that were closest to the Front Entrance. Directly to my left was Annie who brought in a life size statue of a horse (Saddlelight Sam) that sported the "Saddle Light" that she invented!
Quoting from Annie's brochure pictured here..."I began designing Saddlelights after an incident one very dark evening while
driving home. As I came over a rise on a residential street near my home, something white caught my eye for a moment on the road ahead of me. The white object quickly disappeared and reappeared a few more times. My mind hastily flashed through the possibilities of what it could be.

It brought chills to my spine when I realized my vehicle headlights were reflecting off a white patch on a little girl's pony as she struggled to regain control of her horse in the middle of the street!...It was then I knew I had to create an equine lighting system to safely and effectively advise a motorist of a horse and rider's presence at night. ~Annie ~ Check out her website
Saddlelights.com

Across the aisle from Annie's booth was the Gibbs with their "Roto-Harrow". The inventor's of "the ultimate arena conditioner that levels, floats and breaks clods as it rotates!" Quoting from their brochure, the "Roto-Harrow is Built To Last and is Affordable!" Some of the points that the brochure lists is that there is no need for course teardown, it is ideal in tight areas such as round pens, between jumps, around barrels, etc. It is easy on fence posts because there are no corners on the unit. It has a 3-point hook-up and no PTO is required! The depth is adjustable and is excellent for sliding tracks, race tracks, and dressage courts. And the best part, it is "self cleaning"!! Check out the home of the roto-harrow and the dragster at Roto-Harrow.com.
Next door to the Gibb's and across from my booth, Dave Thornbury set up his custom chaps booth. His booth looked like you had step into a quaint western store, the only thing missing was a bell on the front door! Complete with counter, stools, measuring tape, viewing mirror and beautiful examples of his work, Dave spent his time measuring men and women for their very own pair of chaps, an art that Dave has accomplished since 1970! For a look at the different styles available. Did you know that the shorter chaps are called chinks? Listed in Dave's brochure, the cutting chaps, English schooling and racetrack chaps, Batwing chaps, Old-Timers chaps, and working chaps round out the selection for you to choose from. Quoting from Dave's brochure..."These will be your chaps. You'll ride in them for a long time...."My chaps are individually made to your measurements and unique specifications. Chaps are made one pair at a time using the fines quality and most appropriate hides for each job. I pay special attention to detail, and use only first-grade leather, trim, zippers, accessories, and workmanship. I think they look good...I know they wear well. I invite you to be the judge." And I invite you to check out Dave's website at Thornbury Chaps.com!

Kids Day at Equine Experience...

April 1st, 2007 was the day for kids during the 2007 Equine Experience in Paso Robles, California. The day started with Cowboy Church in the Auction Barn with Horse trainer Richard Winters bringing us "From the Mount" at 8:30am. The Barn Bonanza started at 9am where the kids were challenged to "see how many different horses you can find!" Cahlibur and Coal were among the many different breeds of horses the children had to look at and learn about!

The kids met back at the Kids Corral to learn roping basics on the ground from Dugan Kelley and got their faces painted and colored their own masterpieces at 11:30am. During Face Painting plus Cowboy & Cowgirl Coloring at the Kids Corral, the kids received a copy of PJ's Little Ones Equine Coloring Book. The children were asked to color their favorite page and we would post their masterpieces on our website and here on our Mustang 'n' Cowboys blog!

Jennifer ~ Age 6 Hailie ~ Age 7 Ana ~ Age 8

At 2pm the kids learned about "Dressage and Quadrille" from Barbi Breen-Gurley in the Warm Up Arena. And last but not least the kids had a stick horse race back at the Kids Corral!!!

I Made It!!!

I am sitting in the motel room in Paso Robles, California! I spent the afternoon setting up the combination Information booth and PJ's Corner Gift Shoppe. I will try to get pictures. Katy and I ruined the zoom lens on my new camera. I didn't put the strap around my neck and she caught the strap and sent the camera to the ground. Fortunately the camera is okay. If I can find a store that carries the lens then I will pick up a new one tomorrow on break. (Kate was only trying to tell me that she and the other dogs were out of food. Needless to say, she does not jump up on me anymore. She is very sensitive and when I yelled at her she crawled over to her bed and sulked for the rest of the night.)

When I went looking for the stalls that Cahlibur and Coal will be staying in for the weekend, I met the owner of "Gaelic Dancer"! Barbara stated that her 4 year old stud was as gentle as a kitten and that is one of the reasons she raises Gypsy Vanners. And Amy, the vendor next to me, is the inventor of the "Horse Headlight"!!

It is after midnight and I have a long day ahead of me. I will write again tomorrow night telling you how the first day of the 4th Annual Equine Experience faired! By the way...the weather is beautiful...it reached 80 degrees today and promises to be a wonderful weekend!!!

Cahlibur 'n' Coal Represent the Mustang Breed at Equine Experience...

That's right! Cahlibur and Coal will be representing the "Mustang" breed at the 4th Annual Equine Experience in Paso Robles, CA. TnT will trailer them over Friday morning after they get off work. There is a possibility that they will get some arena time, but that is not set in stone! I created a tri-fold brochure that visitors to Cahlibur and Coal's pens can take with them. Along with pictures of their Sierra Nevada Pack Trip and the brochures, Cahlibur and Coal will have to shine their best to impress these horse savvy people this weekend!

Our first Equine Experience...

Last years' 3rd Annual Equine Experience, held March 31 - April 2, was our first Equine Experience and a lot of fun! Along with many others, Travis and Tony worked behind the scenes. It was three days filled with setting up and tearing down corrals and obstacle courses for the clinicians and helping with the Horse Sale.
Just as soon as TnT got off work on Thursday, we drove over to Paso Robles, got a room at Motel 6 and went over to the fairgrounds that were only about 2 1/2 blocks away. TnT needed to check in and found out what they would be doing for the next couple of days. They met the rest of the crew that they would be working with and then we went to eat.
On the way over, we stopped on the side of the road to chat with a friend of TnT's. She was heading to the ranch and would meet us at the fairgrounds on Saturday. She didn't recognize the color of the truck we were in, but knew by the double American flags flying from the truck that it had to be TnT. (Tony had just had his truck repainted.)
Friday morning we were at the fairgrounds a little before 7am and was able to drive past the gate with the pass and arm bands that we had been issued the night before. This is going to be exciting!

If work permits they will be there in 2007!

The equine expo is an inexpensive way to learn, see new products, and shop for anything and everything equine! There always seems to be something new and different! With so much going on, it makes sense to schedule the events you want to see and forget the Select Sale and Special Shows. You will probably need all the days provided to see and do everything!

Shop at exhibitors that feature the latest equine products and services including; feed, tack, clothing for horse and rider, fencing, portable barns, trailers, trucks, jewelry, furniture, and anything else you or your horse may need."

"The Equine Experience brings the Central Coast of California a horse expo that is uniquely fun while being highly educational. The expo will include a multitude of disciplines, exhibits, and entertainment. It will be informative, attractive, action packed, and approachable to all levels of horse enthusiast.

Like other equine events, the EQUINE EXPERIENCE presents a host of well-known, highly respected equine clinicians from all over the country. However, unlike other equine events, the audience members are an important part of the clinics. We strive to create an interactive experience that lends itself to a more fun and purposeful learning experience. The clinics in effect become hands-on experiences for the audience members. In addition to that, they also get the opportunity to interact one on one with clinicians through open question and answer forums.

Conceived by well known local rancher John Rudnick, this event is the culmination of a life long love of horses and the desire to better the relationship between horse and human. Together with his wife Maureen, family, and friends, the Equine Experience Team welcomes you to the beautiful town of Paso Robles and tempts you to indulge yourself with your love of all things Equine."
